June 1977:
As seen in the markings table and Image 1 above, the aircraft wore the Grape scheme initially with Yellow/Black bort codes and high visability titles/national insignia. The aircraft never seemed to have "USAF" stencilled onto the tail while in this scheme which was slightly unusual.
At some point the 10th TRW crest was added to the tail above the serial.
Also, the aircraft had no pilot/crew names painted under the canopy or the assocaited red painted canopy rail.
October 1986:
By October 1986 the aircraft had been repainted in the Ghost(Old) scheme and now sported yellow/red bort codes and low viz "U.S.AIR FORCE" titles on the fuselage side. The aircraft also had "USAF" applied in the normal position above the serial on the vertical tail.
Other markings included the addition of the 10th Air Base Wing crest on a green background on the starboard fuselage side and a 527th Bear and Soviet star on the port side, just infront of the intake. The aircraft also had the canopy rail painted red with yellow legend stating the pilot (port side) and crew chief (starboard side). |
