The 527th Aggressor squadron was formed on April 1st, 1976 under its previous name, the 527th TFTAS (Tactical Fighter Training Aggressor Squadron) at RAF Alconbury in England. The unit was part of the 10th Tactical
Reconnaissance
Wing (previously the 10th Air Base Wing and later the 10th TFW flying A-10s).
The 527th function was to provide DACT support to both USAFE and NATO units in Europe and this was acheived with F-5Es from 1976 till June 22, 1988 when the unit switched to the F-16C on July 1st 1988. The F-16C only served till mid 1990 when defence cuts caused the USAF to relinquish many of its Aggressor aircraft, and the 527th was deactivated on September 30th 1990.
On October 23rd 2000 the unit was reactivated as the first space aggressor squadron at Schriever AFB in Colorado and the unit still functions in this role today.
